Malaga to pedestrianise these streets with the help of EU funding - CSN News

CSN News: Malaga will pedestrianize these streets with EU funding

These Malaga streets are soon to be pedestrianised, thanks to EU investments.

The council has revealed that EU funds for urban regeneration will be used to pedestrianise Malaga’s historic centre.

The plans aim to reduce the congestion in the Old Town and generate interest for the areas of El Molinillo (El Molinillo), Cruz de Humilladero (Cruise de Humilladero), Capuchinos (Capuchinos) and Las Flores.

Presented yesterday, the €30 million project is thought to benefit over 48,000 residents by ‘regenerating runned down areas’.

The streets will be semi-pedestrianised. Squares will also be created, and the accessibility of all buildings will be improved, with an emphasis on green, sustainable development.

One of the major projects is to improve access to Gibralfaro, by creating new hiking paths and picnic areas from Calle Victoria.

Calle Ollerias will become semi-pedestrianised. Trees will be added, footpaths will be widened and traffic will decrease.

There will be additional green spaces and pedestrian zones around the Mercado De Salamanca, Calle San Bartolome.

Calle Salamanca is no longer an entryway into the city, and many central streets are only accessible to residents.

Calle Teba, Pasaje Equiluz and Calle Teba will become pedestrian-friendly and green spaces in the Cruz del Humilladero neighborhood.

Along with shaded areas and water features, benches and children’s playgrounds will be built.

In the Las Flores district, the drainage system will be upgraded and the area next to Calle Albeniz revitalized with new plants.

Alameda de Capuchinos’s education center will become more accessible to use in cultural and civic contexts, as well as training.

San Miguel Cemetery will be restored, and a green area next to Calle Zurbaran will be created.
