Property sales in Spain reach their highest since May 2007 after surging by 51% - CSN News

CSN News reports that Alicante is experiencing a housing crisis. It’s now harder to rent a home at an affordable price than it is in Madrid or Barcelona.


Alicante is harder to rent a home than Barcelona or Madrid, according to the Idealist Property Portal

The affordability was calculated based on the average household income. Although properties are more costly elsewhere, Alicante has a lower purchasing power due to lower salaries.

It is important to reach conclusions. Idealista’s The research service took into consideration that the average Spanish household consists of 2.4 individuals, meaning that a minimum of two bedrooms would be required for a small-sized family.

The National Statistics Institute provided data on household incomes and the Institute then compared them to the average price of these properties in each city.

A household earning the average income would only be able to afford 14% out of the apartments available in Alicante. Experts recommend that you do not spend more than 30% on your income.

Barcelona and Madrid have a higher affordability percentage of 16%.

Idealist says that a Alicante family on an average income should pay a maximum of €768 per month for rent, so as not exceed the 30% income threshold.

The reality is that a two-bedroom apartment in the city already costs an average of €1,051 which means going up to 38% of total income and therefore less money to spend on bills and necessities, let alone unforeseen situations.

Advertisements on the internet are a great way to find out what people think about your products. Idealist portal, only 14% in Alicante offer a monthly payment below €768.

Nationally, the situation is marginally better with the maximum average payments reaching €764.

Ciudad Real is the cheapest place, followed by Teruel with 98%, Jaen at 94% and Zamora on 94%.
