Vera’s beaches were once again washed out by the Herminia storm.
It has caused destruction on the Vera coastline. At a recent town council meeting, the town council agreed to press the Spanish government to fulfill its breakwater project promises.
Vera’s coastline has had to fight against the weather and government for many years
Vera Playa’s naturist beaches have had to fight sea erosion over the past few years. Breakwater projects are authorized between Garrucha and the Almanzora River valley, but nothing has been done in order to progress the projects. The Ministry for Ecological Transition, and the Demographic Challenge are the ones who have continually delayed the project which could protect the Vera Coast from further destruction.
On January 29, motions were adopted to urge the Spanish government to immediately “start works for stabilisation, restoration and protection of area damaged by the storm.” Vera Town Hall has also urged the Spanish Government to “adopt immediately measures for the recovery and restoration of the coastline, and implement the project from Garrucha to the Almanzora River in order not cause further damage due to recurrent storms.” The Vera Town Hall stated that “We cannot continue to allow storms damaging our beaches, and putting the safety of our neighbours in danger.” It’s time to act!
