A Literary Oasis in Mojácar Pueblo: Sunny With A Chance of Books
Nestled in the charming heart of Mojácar Pueblo (Calle Enmedio 2), Sunny With A Chance of Books is more than just a bookshop—it’s a love letter to stories, culture, and community. Opened in March 2024, this Librería Internacional (International Bookshop) offers a thoughtfully curated selection of new and pre-loved books for all ages, in Spanish and English, with recent additions in French, German, and Dutch.
The shop is the brainchild of Antonia, who moved from Berlin to Mojácar with her family three years ago. She missed the lively bookshops that she used to frequent and decided to open her own literary oasis, with support from her husband Alex, Eva Luna, their three-year old daughter, as well as a growing group of book lovers in Mojacar.
More Than a Bookshop: A Community Hub for Book Lovers in Mojácar
Shelf-tops are decorated with handmade products such as literary postcards, homemade jams and bookmarks with literary themes, or even hand-poured candle. The shop proudly showcases books about Mojácar and works by local authors, with regular events celebrating homegrown talent.
The book will be presented on the 15th of February at 12pm. Un Viaje Inesperado by Noelia Illana Armenteros.
The English Book Club will meet on the first Saturday every month at 4:00pm. 2025 is dedicated to “reading across the globe.” The next selection is Butter Asako Yuzuki at the 1st March meeting.
Although the first year was challenging, the shop broke even and has set an ambitious target for 2025: sell 2,025 copies. The milestone is visualised in a colourful poster displayed inside the shop (that you can colour when buying a new book). A loyalty program offers discounts to regular customers, reinforcing the shop’s belief that it’s not in competition with online giants like Amazon or local charity shops—because every book sold anywhere is a win for the love of reading.
