Wildfire threatens Malaga’s Technology Park

A wildfire broke out on Monday, July 20, in an open field on Avenida Profesor García Rodeja, opposite the main entrance to the Parque Tecnológico de Andalucía near Campanillas, leading to the complete closure of the A-7054 and A-357 roads in both directions until 4pm.

According to 112 Emergency Service, traffic is now moving again, but the smoke and dust caused by the fire cause a slow and controlled flow. Traffic officers from Guardia Civil are managing the flow.

The fire started around 2.30pm, as reported by the 112 Andalucía Emergency Service, and is believed to have been sparked by the burning of crop stubble. Three fire engines, two water tanker truck, and crews from Teatinos and Churriana stations, as well as Central (Martiricos), were sent to the scene. To manage traffic and access to the technology parks, local police officers and traffic officials have also been deployed.

Plan Infoca has provided additional resources to help extinguish the fire due to its spread and difficult terrain. Smoke, which can be seen from different points in the region, has caused local workers and residents to become concerned.

Firefighting efforts continue, but no injuries or major property damage has been reported. Authorities have warned drivers to be cautious in the area, and reminded them that burning agricultural waste is not allowed at this time due to wildfire risk.
