Why would you choose one supermarket instead of another? You choose it because of the price, the product, or the proximity to your home …?
Spanish Consumers and User Organisation (OCU), a consumer and user organisation, conducted a survey to see which supermarket and superstore chains were the most highly rated. The survey was conducted by 4,886 OCU Members. Results, which refers to 46 chains, show that the majority of customers are satisfied with opening hours, cleanliness and spaciousness, but there are also notable differences.
The regional chains that came out best in the survey were: the Catalan companies Esclat and Bon Preu which top the list, followed by others such as Familia, Ametller, Family Cash, Cash Fresh, Plus Fresc, Consum, Bonárea and Hiperusera. Meanwhile, among the national chains, the best rated are El Corte Inglés, Hipercor and Aldi.

Customers value good food and products, along with good prices. Other aspects, such as the practicality of the product (i.e. It was also important to be close to work or home. Product choice is another basic criterion for consumers, with Hipercor, Esclat and El Corte Inglés standing out, as well as Alcampo.
The queues at the checkouts is another area where chains differ significantly. Esclat Supercor Plus Fresc BM Complet and BM Complet are supermarkets which satisfy customers the most in this regard.
Online shopping
Three out of every four people surveyed said that they had never shopped online at a supermarket. While online shopping is quite common in fashion, technology and other industries, it is not as popular in the food market.
The OCU study collected data from ten online grocery stores. The survey participants praised punctuality and accuracy in deliveries. However, they complained about navigation on websites, shortages of fresh products, and delivery times. In this section the top-rated online supermarkets were Bon Preu followed by Consum, Mercadona, then Amazon Fresh. Alcampo, Carrefour and Mercadona are the least popular.
