Watch: Police in Spain bust cocaine haul hidden among pineapple shipments

THIS is the moment police in Spain uncovered a cocaine shipment hidden among pineapples.

In a statement online, Policia Nacional said the drugs had come from South America.

The force said the pineapples were first shipped to Portugal before being loaded onto trucks that headed into Spain.

The investigation began in May when agents detected a suspicious arrival at the Portuguese port of Setubal.

The container was from Costa Rica and contained fruit imported by a company based in Barcelona, ??which authorities believed could have cocaine hidden among the legal merchandise.

A joint operation was set up between Portuguese and Spanish authorities to monitor the arrival of the container as well as its transport by road to Barcelona.

The shipment was seized in Spain, where police found 589 branded packages of cocaine hidden in false bottoms that were installed in the pallets carrying the pineapples.

A total of 211kg of the drug were seized and three people were arrested.
