WATCH: Costa del Sol under yellow alert after Storm Herminia brings gale force winds and heavy rainfall – CSN News


The Costa del Sol was placed under a weather warning of yellow as the Storm Herminia, which has gale-force wind speeds up to 90kmh and heavy rains, battered southern Spain.

Sierra Bermeja, a popular destination in Estepona and its surrounding mountains, has already received significant rainfall.

The Spanish weather agency AEMET issued yellow warnings today for the entire Malaga coast, with winds reaching Gale Force 7 in the west and waves up to 3 metres high.

Costa del Sol has been placed on yellow alert due to heavy rains and high winds

Storm Herminia caused the cancellation of Monday’s first ferry service between the Moroccan ports of Tarifa & Tangier.

However, the storm brings welcome relief to the drought-stricken region, with the La Concepción reservoir, which supplies much of the Costa del Sol, already receiving beneficial rainfall.

The collection points in Guadalmina & Guadalmansa recorded 10mm. This will replenish vital water reserves.

There are also other areas that have experienced significant rainfall, including Ojen (favorite of the expatriates), with 15mm and the beautiful Genal River valley, near Jubrique (14,5mm).

Serrania De Ronda, Spain’s most popular inland destination, is especially affected by high winds. With sustained speeds of up to 80 kmh, and gusts of up to 90 kmh, the wind could be particularly strong until 9pm.

Meteorologists say the storm system is expected to affect travel and outdoor activities in Malaga’s capital city, Malaga, within the next few hours.

Yellow weather warnings remain in effect for wind and coastal conditions throughout Monday. Authorities advise residents and visitors to be cautious, especially in coastal and mountainous regions.
