According to Torremolinos Mayor Margarita Del Cid, 200 affordable homes will be built.
Construction can begin as soon as the central government gives permission. Del Cid stated at the last council meeting that the previous administrations had been unable to get the project started. Now, the project will be going ahead.
The plan is based off a diagnosis of current real estate prices, and ensures that new developments have prices that are tailored to the needs for average families or young people who can’t get on the ladder of property because of current high prices.
The objectives will be based on a commitment to responsible urbanism, which allows preserving the identity of the town with a set of social, spatial, historical, and cultural features that characterise it and supports the idea of a safe urban place with adequate quality and social integration.
The mayor stated that an agreement with a housing company will be signed within the next couple of days.
This new urban planning agreement will allow the council to facilitate the construction of 3,600 homes within the town on a medium-to-long term basis. According to real estate, an increase in supply will help combat the rising property prices.
The council will keep its residents informed by creating a special web space where they will post all the latest news on urban planning. Information will be made available on planea.torremolinos.es.
