Costa del Sol based charity Collective Calling has launched innovative mobile solution to reach more people experiencing homelessness.
Spain’s first mobile Shower brings hygiene and dignity to Costa del Sol
The first mobile shower unit in Spain was launched by the charity Collective Calling to assist Spain’s homeless. It is an innovative initiative that aims to make hygiene more accessible, and reduce the stigma usually associated with shelters.
Many people experiencing homelessness struggle to maintain basic hygiene. Some shelters have showers, but many people choose to avoid them because of overcrowding or personal trauma.
Some people simply can’t reach these places due to lack of transport or mobility problems. This mobile shower eliminates barriers by bringing hygiene services to the street. It allows more people to experience the dignity and comfort of a warm, hot shower.
Mobile shower units are more effective and flexible than shelters because they can be used in multiple locations, and serve a larger population.
This initiative has many benefits, including:
Accessible without registering or visiting a shelter. Individuals can just walk in and refresh.
Reaching more people by traveling to different areas, the unit ensures hygiene support is available to a wider community.
A simple shower can help restore dignity, boost confidence and improve mental health. It can also assist individuals in taking steps towards reintegration.
The homeless can now benefit from mobile showers in Costa del Sol
“A warm, shower may seem insignificant, but it is a source of hope, dignity and relief for those living on the street. This is a first step to feeling human again, and it opens the door for further support.
As the first mobile unit in Spain, the project sets a standard for outreach services across the country. Collective Calling hopes with community support that this initiative will expand to reach more people in Spain.
To keep this project running, it relies on donations from the public and volunteers. If you’re interested in getting involved visit www.collectivecalling.org
