According to reports, Emilia Perez – the Spanish star of Oscar nominated movie – has been removed as a promotional event film for next month’s Academy Awards. The Hollywood Reporter
Karla Sofía Gascon from Madrid, who plays the title role, has reportedly been sidelined by Netflix after a dozen old offensive racist tweets resurfaced.
Emilia Perez received 13 Oscar nominations including one for Gascon as best actress.

She is the first woman of transgender gender to win a nomination for Best Actress and only the second one from Spain, after Penelope Cruz.
Netflix distributed and funded the Oscar campaign in the US and Canada.
The tweets weren’t deleted from Gascon’s profile, but were redistributed in the last week.
In addition to making comments against Moroccans, they criticize Islam and George Floyd, who was killed by a US Police officer.
The actress said El Pais Monday: “I’m only responsible for my own words, not what others think I said or how they interpret it.”
“Many of these tweets were taken out-of-context, sarcastic in nature, and part of an ongoing thread that eventually led to a book by me.”
She continued: “They’re using me.” “I feel alone.”
She replied, “If I don’t fight for the Oscar then I will throw it away.” I will not allow hatred to be a luxury for those who are envious.
Gascon and the other Emilia Perez actors are expected to attend the AFI awards luncheon on Thursday.
The following day, the Critics Choice Gala, which was postponed because of the fires in Los Angeles will take place, with the Emilia Perez Team in attendance.
Gascon was previously scheduled to attend the PGA gala to present a prize.
Gascon is still invited to the events that Netflix removed Gascon from.
According to The Hollywood Reporter Attendees at these events may decide to cancel their attendance if the woman is present.
