The Guardia Civil in Córdoba has dealt a significant blow to marijuana cultivation and trafficking in the province with Operation Califa-Blíster-23, resulting in 26 arrests and the seizure of over 10,000 marijuana plants. These plants were found in both greenhouses and open-air plantations. The operation targeted a family-run organization based in the capital of Córdoba, which not only managed large-scale cultivation but also operated a public-facing ‘grow shop’ that sold seeds and materials for growing marijuana.
In addition to the plantations, authorities dismantled a laboratory used for processing the drug, highlighting the sophistication of the criminal network’s operations. This case underscores how some criminal organizations attempt to blend into the formal economy by using legal businesses as a front for illicit activities.
