A FRUSTRATED expat has spoken out after ‘illegal’ campers were spotted throwing rubbish and human waste onto a Torrox beach.
Doug Fairchild from Australia, aged 78, claims that around 70 campervans have been illegally parked on a public parking lot near the lighthouse.
He alleges Torrox council are doing ‘nothing’ to stop the growing ‘health risk’, exacerbated by the presence of feral cats.
He told The Olive Press that “many caravans don’t have toilets, and they use the nearby vegetation to empty their waste.
We have complained repeatedly to the Guardia Civil and town hall but they are deaf despite a clear sign stating that campervans were not allowed.
Fairchild lives opposite the site at Urbanizacion Punta del Faro.
He claims that Policia Local agents had cleared the area around 30 vans at the start of January.
However, within days the numbers ‘swelled’ to over 40, expanding out of the car park and onto Fairchild’s street.
“If I were to plan to sell my apartment, and potential buyers saw that I had a lot of campers in it, I am sure they would reduce the price and I would find it difficult to sell,” said the man.
MiluCar Camper Area, and Paradise Beach Camper Area are both just minutes away.
The move comes one week after hundreds were forced to leave the Maro-Cerro Gordo Cliffs Nature Reserve in Nerja.
In total, 14 patrol groups were involved in the joint operation, including agents from the Guardia Civil and Nerja Policia Local, as well as Junta environmental officers.
During the eviction, which took place on January 20, two individuals were arrested. They were charged with disobedience as well as resisting arrest.
Five vehicles were towed away with a towtruck from the beaches of Las Alberquillas and Rio de la Miel, as well as Cala del Pino.
Torrox Council, and the local Policia Local, have not responded to any requests for comment.
