Financial advisor for American expats in Spain offers help to Spanish expats –

Did you know that 167,426 Spaniards, the fourth largest concentration of Spaniards outside of Spain, live in the United States? Peter Dougherty knows. He is an American financial planner at BISSAN Wealth Management, Spain’s top financial planning firm.

In his work at BISSAN, he helps Americans understand the financial landscape in Spain. Recently, he realised that it would be extremely helpful to do just the opposite; that is, help Spaniards understand the financial complexities of living in the United States.

Because of this, he wrote a book entitled: La Hoja de Ruta Fiscal y Financiera para los españoles en EE.UU., which translates as “The Fiscal and Financial Road Map for Spaniards in the U.S.”

Dougherty’s book has a dual purpose: on the one hand, to provide financial wisdom that will assist Spaniards residing in the United States and on the other, to satisfy the curiosity of anyone who wants to learn about the American financial world without leaving home.

The author spent twenty years working on Wall Street in New York, and his ability to demystify complex financial terms with simplicity is evident throughout the book. It’s sprinkled with explanatory graphics, analogies, and glossaries so the reader can easily understand concepts that were previously unknown to them.

His first book, “The Dougherty Code: Secrets of Financial Planning in Spain Revealed”, was published in 2023 and gave Americans in Spain what this new book offers Spaniards living in the United States: an understanding of the financial landscape they face daily.

His latest book, La Hoja de Ruta, is now available in bookstores and on Amazon.

Peter Dougherty holds a certificate in financial planning from Northwestern University in Chicago, a bachelor’s degree in economics from Arizona State University, and an MBA from Columbia University Business School in New York. He works as a financial planner at BISSAN Wealth Management in Spain.
