The new Spanish guest registration system has caused concern for a British expat businessman. Hotel and other accommodations.
IT professional and Lanzarote property owner, Scott Dobson, called the SES Hospedajes system ‘a minefield of complexity’ thanks to the multiple apps and digital certificates required.

The new system is first being introduced in 2023. It will then be mandatory by December 2024.
The UK media warned that the Spanish tourism industry could be at risk due to the massive amount of data collected.
According to reports, over 40 pieces data are requested but the only mandatory information that is new is the guest address.
Dobson, however, claims that the time it takes to register guests is increasing exponentially.
Dobson said, “The website is not as user-friendly and it takes more time to enter guest information.”
Guests are consulted by Olive PressDobson also agreed: “I was in a Jaen hotel last week, and it took about five minutes to register every guest. It was ridiculous. I was waiting for ages.”
Dobson, a company based in the UK, has run an online group of holiday rental owners since 2023. The group now boasts over 2,000 members.
He said that the Facebook group was incredibly helpful, as it provided many tips and tricks.
Called simply ‘SES Hospedajes’, the group allows confused expats to ask questions about the new system.
The Preston native also runs a service called ‘Villa Check InThe owner can use this service to register their guests.
