Almeria Province called for a definitive response from the central government regarding the Bajo Almanzora I desalination facility in Villaricos.
Hugo Moran is the junior minister of the Environment. Maribel Sanchez-Torregrosa, Almeria’s MP, and Senator Miguel Angel Castlon spoke on behalf “of all the MPs and Senators in the province” and asked for explanations.
They declared that the Villaricos Desalination Plant has been out-of-action for six years due to flood damage. The central government was forced to provide a clear answer “once for all”.
Sanchez Torregrosa claimed that Almeria’s Levante (Levante) and Almazora (Almezora) zones have the worst water shortages in southern Europe.
The MP stated that “despite this, Spain’s Government has repeatedly turned their backs on this part” of the country.
Sanchez Torregrosa said that the Tajo-Segura water pipeline has been reduced 26 times.
“Additionally, due to the drought that we have been experiencing since 2021, there is no water flowing from the Negratin Reservoir to the Levante region.”
When Sara Aagesen Muñoz, Ecological Transition minister appeared before the parliament’s Ecological Transition Committee to provide details of government spending on water, she dedicated “barely four minutes” to Almeria, Sanchez Torregrosa complained.
Sanchez Torregrosa stated, “We want to hear Hugo Moran speak.”
