Almost 70% of respondents in Malaga Province said they would ditch their car and use public transportation if they could.According to the latest edition of Barometro de la Provincia de Malaga.
If they had the option, 68.3% Malaga Province residents said they would choose to travel by train or buses instead of their car.
Currently 64% of respondents use their personal vehicle to commute to work.
Sierra de las Nieves (75%) Guadalteba (75%) and Valle del Guadalhorce (74.3%) are the regions where commuters most often leave their cars in their driveway.

Serrania de Ronda is home to the least likely people to use public transport, followed by Antequera, and Axarquia. The percentages are around 66%.


Many people think that extending the Cercanias train to Algeciras is a good way to expand the options of public transportation in the region.
Many people also want the government to get rid of the tolls on the AP-7 motorway, an expansion in bus service, an extension of the A-7 motorway from Velez-Malaga to El Palo and the widening of the A-357 road between Malaga and Campillos.
A survey conducted by the Madeca Foundation and the Malaga Provincial Council, with 2,400 adult telephone interviews from Malaga Province municipalities.

When the interviews were carried out – between December 2024 and January 2025 – the A-397 road between San Pedro and Ronda wasn’t closed yet.
The president of the Provincial Council, Francisco Salado, did not lose sight of the fact that ‘mobility and public transport is the fourth problem in the province, after housing, unemployment and health’.
In terms of mobility the president said “the entire metropolis of Malaga” is in an exceptional period of growth. He added that it was important to identify and anticipate the needs of this province, as in just a few more years the population will surpass two million and make Andalusia the most populous region.
