Since the 40s, Mijas Council has had a foreigners department to advise those who come from other countries.
This was the very first service of its kind to be offered in Spain. It has set a standard for people who are looking for help or advice in a new country. The service has answered 28,230 questions of all kinds in the past year.
The number of people who receive this type of consultation has risen year-on-year. In 2024, there will be 9,580 face to face consultations, 7,310 telephone conversations, and 11,340 emails.
Most frequently asked questions are about taxes, registrations and cancellations; permits and visas; the digital certificate; services for women or urban planning or social services or health services.
The department also organizes many events throughout the entire year. There are many events that the department organises throughout the year.
According to the Councillor for Foreigners, Mario Bravo, ‘Taking into account that a third of the population residing in Mijas is of foreign origin, this municipal department does an essential task of informing and resolving queries. We will keep working to ensure that the foreigners are served as quickly and efficiently as possible.
