16.45 – Power cuts caused by “rare atmospheric phenomena” According to Portuguese energy company REN, (Rede Eletrica Nacional).  They say“due to extreme temperature variations in the interior of Spain, there were anomalous oscillations in the very high voltage lines (400 KV), a phenomenon known as ‘induced atmospheric vibrations. These oscillations led to synchronisation problems between electrical systems and caused successive disturbances in the interconnected European network.  Red Eléctrica Española have not responded to this explanation.

16.15 – The power will be restored within 6-10 hours.  Red Eléctrica Española have successfully started to return voltage to the power network.  Eduardo Prieto says that the current situation is a good one. “Extraordinary and totally extraordinary”.
