Many people expect to see the usual list of Corfu attractions: beaches, villages with olive trees, and a relaxed atmosphere, which may include a cocktail at the poolside. All of that is available in high-definition, and with the same crowds. Corfu is a completely different place once you get past the beach bars, scooter rental signs and other tourist attractions. It’s not some wild escape. In parts of Greece, you may find that things are not well-organized, a goat could block the road or the only beaches can be found down long trails.
The ports are busy. Head inland and the landscape changes. Old stone houses are left to deteriorate, small coves have barely been touched, and winding pathways look like they’re meant for someone with a good sense of direction. Locals will not shout about them. They want to keep it this way. If you’re heading to Greece for the summer, these are worth a detour.
