Body of ‘foreign’ man, 45, is found shot to death near tennis courts on Spain’s Costa Blanca

A MAN died on Monday night after being shot at least twice in an Elche area village on the Costa Blanca.

The victim is said to be a non-Spaniard aged 45 and he was at a property in Daimes close to some tennis courts.

One report said the foreigner was visiting his ex-partner and daughter while another media outlet said he was shot in the head and the chest at the front door.

Authorities were called by a ‘friend’ at around 11pm with Elche Policia Local officers arriving within minutes.

They performed first aid on the victim, but without success.

The investigation, led by the Policia Nacional, is currently under a court secrecy order.

The house was sealed off as a crime scene with experts working until around noon on Tuesday.

No arrests appear to have been made or have been publicly declared in addition to any possible motive for the murder.

Daimes is a community of 1,400 residents living in dispersed housing meaning that finding any neighbours who heard or saw anything of interest could prove to be difficult.

It borders the villages of La Marina, El Derramador, Algoros, Atzavares Baix, La Hoya and city of Santa Pola.

Daimes mayor, Javier Piñol, said he was unable to provide more details due to the secrecy order, short of confirming that a man had been shot dead at around 11pm on Monday.

Residents initially reacted to the news of the shooting believing that it was connected to a recent rise in home robberies and that an owner might have been killed, which was not the case.
