Ancient palace turned hotel in Mallorca is named among ‘the most beautiful in the world’ – CSN

THIS Mallorca hotel on the former site of an ancient palace has been named the ‘world’s most beautiful’.

Nobis Hotel Palma is officially the World’s Most Beautiful Hotel according to the Prix Versailles 2020.

This luxurious hotel was designed by Nobis Hospitality Group of Sweden and is one the oldest buildings on Palma.

The five-star accommodation, which has only been in operation for a little over a month, has already won the award for architectural design.

A 12th-century Moorish palace once stood on Carrer de les Caputxines in Palma de Mallorca’s old town.

The 37 rooms and suites are designed to reflect the unique history of the building while maintaining a modern feel.

The hotel also has a restaurant, bar, spa, swimming pool, and terrace, so you don’t need to leave.

The original Muslim Palace dates back to medieval time and was organised around two courtyards.

In the now reception area, a panelled ceiling with Arabic calligraphy has miraculously survived an earthquake and a fire from the 13th Century.

When it was originally built, the Church of Sant Jaime in the vicinity of the Muslim Palace, was one of Mallorca’s most prominent mosques.

After the Christian conquest in Mallorca, King Alfonso III was Aragon burned down the building.

The site was left in ruins for more than 100 years before it was converted into villas for noble families of Mallorca.

The palace was built in Gothic style around the middle of the 15th century, and then refurbished in Baroque style during the 17th.

The transformation of the historic building has been carried out in collaboration with the architects of Wingårdhs, the award-winning firm under the direction of the famous Swedish architect Gert Wingårdh and Helena Toresson, as well as the Spanish architectural firms Jordi Herrero Arquitectos and Eduardo García Acuña Arquitectos.

Though this does come at a price, with the hotel clocking in at €300 per night for two people even in the low season.
