Air Nostrum clarified, on the 31st of January, that the cancellation of its early morning flight from Madrid to Paris was a short-term measure.
The official statement stated that the flight Almeria – Madrid, which was scheduled to depart at 7.10am each Monday and Thursday had been halted between January 30th and February 14th due to the low demand of domestic flights during this time.
All of El Alquian’s Madrid flights – 21 per week in each direction – would be resumed on February 17, the communique continued. The communique continued to say that all flights, including the 7.10am flight during the weekdays, would resume on February 17.
Iberia – the airline’s owner – contacted Europa Press following complaints by the Almeria business owners association Asempal that it would be impossible to fly from Almeria and back to Madrid in the same day.
Cecilio Peregrin, Asempal president at the time, said: “This is yet another blow to communications in the province and an additional obstacle to competitiveness for firms.”
This further isolates us, given that Almeria lacks an alternative high-speed rail.
The association also commented on the high price of air fares to Madrid, that at times cost “an exorbitant” €700 which, it said, was beyond the reach of most travellers.
