Holidaymakers are bracing for strict rules and a tougher process when travelling to Spain, sparking some Brits to say they’re boycotting the popular destination.
Earlier this week, it was announced that British tourists heading to Spain will soon have to submit 43 pieces of information when checking into their accommodation. This change is due to new regulations expected to be implemented in December
Critics have compared the new rules to “Big Brother”-style oversight, as it significantly increases the personal data collected upon hotel or apartment check-ins, or when renting a vehicle.
The Spanish government has defended the rule, stating that the heightened data collection will increase safety by allowing the Ministry of Interior to monitor who is staying where and when. They added that this extra information will assist in tracking down terrorists and organised crime syndicates.
However, since the announcement of these changes, Brits have taken to social media to express their concerns, with many expressing shock at the new requirements. Benidorm party planner Frank, also known on TikTok as frankthestagman, recently shared his thoughts on the issue in a straightforward video.

He warned that “as soon as you arrive at the airports”, there will be an obligation to complete a form with various personal details. Frank highlighted that much of the required information is “very personal.
These are the ones that you’re more likely to not want to handover. Your full name, your full address, your credit card information. They’re also going to be wanting your phone number, they’re going to want to know where you’re going to be staying and also your passport and driving licence information.
“If you fail to provide any of this information, and there is more, you can be fined up to 30,000 euros. Wow.”
Further, he highlighted that this law was planned to start this month, yet has been postponed until December 2. Frank said he thinks many people will “disagree” with this development, but it will impact everyone, whether they’re for or against it.
Frank’s video has gained thousands of views since being posted, prompting numerous comments. A large proportion of Brits in the comments are outraged and angered by the new law.
One person said: “It’s going to really put the stops for loads of people – too much hassle for a bit of sun.” Another said: “Won’t be going.”
