What WhatsApp users in Spain need to know about spam, scams and the new rules. You know that feeling of panic you get when WhatsApp suddenly refuses to let you send messages? This summer you may want to pay more attention to WhatsApp’s new rules. If they are not followed, some users will be temporarily blocked.
Why does WhatsApp block accounts? Why is WhatsApp blocking accounts?
Spam? Let’s face it: no one likes it. We’ve all had those days where our WhatsApp pings non-stop with random forwards, sales pitches, or endless ‘good morning’ memes from that one relative. Meta, the people behind WhatsApp, have had it. They’re introducing something called ‘account restriction’, which is basically a polite way of saying: “You’re in the naughty corner—think about what you’ve done.”
Don’t worry, it’s not an outright ban. WhatsApp may temporarily suspend your account if it detects that you’re sending spam or are using bots. While you can’t start new conversations, you will still be able access your existing ones. You can also read about how to get in touch with us. You can still reply to your existing messages. You won’t get ghosted but you will be reminded to stop spamming.
The goal is not to punish everyone for life. WhatsApp wants people to have a chance to improve their habits rather than shutting them down. This is like your mother telling you to clean up your mess but not taking your toys away for good.
WhatsApp’s fight against fraud and scams is more than just spam
WhatsApp has been tightening up its rules. But there is also a clever scam going around. This is how it works: You get a call from a person claiming that their camera has stopped working. They will say “Can I share your screen for a moment?” Sounds harmless, right? But as soon as you do, they can see everything you do on your phone—including your WhatsApp security codes.
If you are unlucky, the person will wait until your code appears, then swipe and copy your account to their device. You’re suddenly locked out, and someone else now has all your contacts, chats and even group gossip. Nightmare.
How do you keep yourself out of trouble?
- First rule: Never share your screen without being absolutely certain of who is on the opposite end.
- Do not click on strange links or enter codes that you did not ask for.
- If WhatsApp claims that you have been restricted, then take it seriously. Stop mass-forwarding and group invitations.
- And keep your app updated—there’s always some clever security tweak happening behind the scenes.
WhatsApp’s new restrictions on chats: Safety and friendliness are most important
WhatsApp isn’t out to get you—they just want to keep our group chats fun and free of dodgy messages. Stick to talking with friends, share a funny meme every now and again, and make sure you double-check before tapping anything suspicious.
If you get the message “You cannot start a new conversation”, now you know what it means! It could be worse. Grab a cup of coffee, wait for the timeout to pass and don’t forget: it isn’t permanent. You’re still not banned.
