The International Airports Council (ACI) has recognised nine Spanish airports among the best in Europe, awarding them a total of 15 prizes in different categories. Interestingly, the smallest airport in Spain, El Hierro Airport, has received four awards.

The title of Best Airport, with various categories based on size and passenger numbers, has been given to Barcelona-El Prat Airport as the best airport with over 40 million passengers, Palma de Mallorca Airport for airports between 25 and 40 million passengers, Alicante-Elche Airport for airports between 15 and 25 million passengers, Menorca Airport for the best airport between 2 and 5 million passengers, and Girona-Costa Brava, Almería, Reus, International Region of Murcia, and El Hierro airports have been recognised in the category for airports with fewer than two million passengers.

Other Award Categories

Barcelona-El Prat and El Hierro airports have been named winners in the Most Pleasant Airport in Europe category, recognising their services, i.e. restaurants, shops, and entertainment, and their efforts to make waiting times as enjoyable and comfortable as possible.

Reus and El Hierro airports have received the award for the Easiest Transit Airport in Europe, recognising airports that make the stay more pleasant and the passenger experience more straightforward and intuitive.

Girona Airport, on the Costa Brava, has been awarded the Cleanest Airport in Europe, recognising the efforts carried out in the facilities to ensure a quality passenger experience.

In addition to the three aforementioned awards, El Hierro Airport has also been awarded for having the Most Attentive Staff in Europe, recognizing the dedication, friendliness, and courtesy of the personnel working at the airport.

Maurici Lucena, the President and CEO of AENA, expressed gratitude for the awards, stating that they “reflect the results of the work and effort of all AENA teams.”
