Mojacar’s long-awaited and much-desired canine beach will finally open its gates this year on Perulejo beach in Mojacar, as previously requested by residents and requested from Pixabay/Sharkalot.
CANINE BEACH: Dogs will soon be welcome on Mojacar’s Perulejo beach
Mayor Fran Garcia Cerda confirmed that this project has received official authorization, enabling dog-owners to soon utilize part of Mojacar’s Perulejo beach for this activity.
Cuevas del Almanzora is the only other municipality in Almeria’s Levante area that permits dogs on one of its beaches, though Garcia Cerda pointed out this particular beach only measures 230 metres long and boasts a small parking area.
“Cuevas beach is too uncomfortable and inaccessible, according to Mayor Jose Echevarra,” she stated, and can never compare with Mojacar’s.”
Mojacar Town Hall announced last October that they had submitted an application to coastal authorities seeking approval to transform part of a publicly owned maritime strip into a canine beach through December 2027. Details were displayed publicly for 20 days to give citizens three weeks to voice any objections regarding an installation equipped with showers and wastebins featuring “poop bag” dispensers.
Local animal protection associations have recommended making use of the beach area near Macenas Castle as part of an animal-safety plan.
“There are no nesting birds here; no protected plants or flowers have been protected; swimmers seldom frequent this beach,” they noted, suggesting that the stretch between Castle Bay and Beach Bar would make an excellent environment for dogs.
