Albox hosted recently a town hall meeting for mayors and officials of the Almanzora Valley’s 28 municipalities.
They were all members of Agenda Urbana del Valle del Almanzora and they came to discuss a Joint Integrated Action Plan, which is supported by the provincial council in Almeria, the Diputacion.
The European Regional Development Fund (FEDER), which allocates funding to local PAIs, will fund this project between 2021 and 2030.
They all agreed that this was an important moment in the development of the region’s economy, social life and environment. A united front will help the towns of Valle del Almanzora which are heavily dependent on the agriculture and marble industries, meet the current challenges.
PAI will be a programme that focuses on stopping the decline of inland towns through a combination of a stronger socio-economic environment, promotion for startups, cultural tourism, and connectivity. The programme will focus on urban regeneration, while improving social and public spaces to improve quality of life.
During the meeting, it was noted that the population of the Valle del Almanzora has decreased by 5.16 percent over the past 10 years. The population is also rapidly aging and above the average for the province.
