Torremolinos and Costa del Sol schools are closed because of heavy rainfall.

Torremolinos shut down its schools while Malaga has been put on high alert. Torrential rains have flooded the Costa del Sol in Spain, causing flash-floods and chaos. As homes, garages and roads are flooded by rising water, emergency services have received a flood of calls.

The Junta de Andalucía has triggered its emergency flood response plan, warning residents to brace for more heavy downpours. The region is on orange alert until 8 PM, February 3, with forecasters predicting a deluge of up to 30 litres per square metre in just one hour – and that’s not all. Storms bring thunder, lighting, and even hailstones In the Mix.

For now, the Costa del Sol has swapped its suncream for sandbags – and the worst may not be over yet.
