The La Cala de Mijas Lions paid a visit to the Soroptimists in January 2025 to present them with a cheque for €2500 to help them with their projects supporting women and girls.
Soroptimist International was founded in 1921. It is a global movement of volunteers with over 65,000 members spread across 118 countries. Soroptimists International is committed to promoting gender equality and the rights of women.
The UN representative ensures that women and girls’ voices are heard in the seven UN centers where they work. Their members are involved in grassroots projects which help women and girl achieve their potential individually and collectively, realize their aspirations and have an equal say in communities around the world.
The Lions president Karen Blair, Lion Gill Stubbs, Lion secretary Anita Van Gelder and Soroptimist vice president Daphne Theunissen presented the cheque.
