70% survival rates by 2030: Marbella united – ‘Bracelets for Hope’ campaign fights back – Costa News Spain

Marbella’s sporting stars swapped fierce competition this weekend for unity, as they donned green armbands. The aim was to increase cancer survival rates. With the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC) setting an ambitious goal – raising survival to 70% by 2030 – this initiative isn’t just about awareness; it’s about immediate action. From January 31 to February 2, footballers, volleyball players, rugby teams, basketball squads, and triathletes across the city will be sporting ‘Bracelets of Hope’ to mark World Cancer Day on February 4.

The campaign is spearheaded by AECC and has thousands of supporters, athletes, clubs and other sports organizations rallying to the cause. Marbella’s Town Hall and top sports clubs, including Marbella Fútbol Club, Costa del Voley, Marbella Rugby Club, Club Baloncesto Marbella, ADJ San Pedro, Grupo Serman Triatlón Marbella, UD San Pedro, CD Resist4, and Club Triatlón Costa del Sol, are all on board.

AECC’s ambitious goal is at the center of this campaign. It is to increase cancer survivability rates to 70% by 2020 through research and public engagement. This isn’t just about raising awareness – it’s about funding scientific breakthroughs, pushing for earlier diagnoses, and empowering communities to take proactive steps against cancer.

Sporting heroes for hope

At the official launch, Marbella’s councillor for sports, Lisandro Vieytes, and local AECC president Santiago Gómez Villares stood shoulder to shoulder with club representatives, reinforcing their commitment to the fight against cancer. Vieytes stated, “We did not hesitate when AECC first reached out to us.” Marbella clubs are always ready to show solidarity. He also pledged to support AECC in its upcoming events, such as the Marea Rosa charity event, a golf tournament for charity, and an annual gala.

Gómez Villares emphasised the role of sport as a powerful voice for social causes, stating, “With ‘Bracelets of Hope,’ we’re sending a message of unity and support to those battling cancer. This message will be spread even further thanks to the Town Hall, and local sports clubs.

Hashtagging hope: #TodosContraElCáncer

This weekend’s games won’t just be about goals and glory – players and clubs will flood social media with images of the green armbands, using the hashtag #TodosContraElCáncer to spread awareness and inspire action. The campaign is part of AECC Wider Mission: To increase the cancer survival rate to 70% by 2030, through research, prevention and public engagement.
