Which Spanish province receives the most speeding fines per capita? Malaga, by far, is the province with the most speeding fines.
According to the Department for Traffic (DGT), this latest information is not yet published but refers to 2023. One can assume that the figures for 2024 will be released at the end this year. The figures are still shockingly high.
In 2023, Malaga issued 344,289 tickets to motorists, the most ever. This is equivalent to 950 fines per day, even more than Madrid. Sevilla, Valencia and Alicante were also ranked below Malaga.
An exact amount in terms of money paid out has not been published, but considering that fines range from €100 to €600 depending on how much the speed limit was exceeded, it will be considerable.
For fines on motorways with a limit of 120 km/h, if the speed of the vehicle is between 120 and 150, the penalty is €100; if the excess of speed is greater, up to 170 km/h on the same type of road, the price will be €300 plus 2 points on the licence; and up to 600 km/h will fetch a fine of €600 and six points.
The fines for driving without a seatbelt and using a cell phone while driving (3,604) were also caught on camera.
A camera installed on the A-7, passing Rincon de la Victoria, is considered one of the worst places for speeding offenses in the nation. The opposition is calling for the addition of a 3rd lane to this stretch of road. They say that many of these speeding incidents are caused by drivers trying to overtake slower vehicles, like haulage vehicles.
