Margarita Del Cid, Mayor of Torremolinos and Juan Antonio Lara the Mayor of Benalmadena have joined forces to provide details on the new National Police Station that is hoped to be constructed to serve both communities in Calle Pedro Navarro Bruna Torremolinos.

The State has not yet approved the plot of land located near Torremolinos’ town hall. Torremolinos granted the land to the Spanish government in 2022. The government has not spoken to either Benalmadena or Torremolinos since.

Both mayors have petitioned the government to expedite the construction of the police station. 

‘For justice to be carried out correctly, it is necessary to improve resources and to strengthen security in a part of the Costa del Sol that needs it. Margarita del CID, Torremolinos’ mayor, stated that the police officers who are always on guard deserve to be rewarded.

Del Cid demands that the government transfer the designation of the land to allow for the construction of a new police facility and the urgently required affordable housing. 

The mayor of Benalmádena argued that, ‘We are here to claim that a new National Police Station is so necessary due to the situation in which the current one is located, a police station that is able to serve both towns.’

In the summer months, both towns triple their regular population, and with TIE card renovation coming up for many expats this summer, the end of the so-called ‘golden visas’, and new rules coming into force in May regarding residency, all National Police stations will need to be well equipped.
