Weather warnings are issued for storms, rain and hail across Spain this week, even in Andalucia – these are the areas on alert

A SERIES of weather alerts have been issued across much of Spain this week as August looks set for a stormy finale.

According to state weather agency Aemet, a so-called DANA – an area of high, isolated depression – is expected to open the heavens on Thursday.

It means a large part of north and central Spain, and even parts of Andalucia, have been placed on a yellow warning for storms, rain, strong winds and even hail.

In Andalucia, the southern tip of Cadiz, including Tarifa, Algeciras and La Linea de la Concepcion, plus neighbouring Jimena de la Frontera, are on yellow alert for rain and storms on Thursday.

The warning is in place from 2am and until at least 8pm.

The same alert is in place for Grazalema, inland Cadiz, plus the majority of Cordoba province.

While rain is expected to fall in other parts of Andalucia, including Malaga and the Costa del Sol, there are no warnings in place yet.

Meanwhile, the coast of Almeria has a yellow alert in place for strong coastal winds on Thursday that could reach 70km/hr.

Other areas on alert for rain and storms on Thursday include the whole of the Madrid community, Ciudad Real, Zaragoza, Logroño, Toledo, Avila, Bilbao, Pamplona and more.

Aemet’s interactive map can be consulted here.

The yellow warnings that include a risk of hail are in Zaragoza, Burgos and other provinces in the north and north east of the mainland.
