Ukrainian ‘fraudster’ wanted by Russia is arrested at a hotel on Spain’s Costa Blanca

A UKRAINIAN man wanted by Russia over a fraud amounting to €850 has been arrested on an international arrest warrant at an Alicante hotel.

Russian authorities said the crime was committed at the end of 2021- before the invasion of Ukraine in late February 2022.

It’s not been revealed when the warrant was issued.

The 31-year-old detainee allegedly collaborated with another person in organising a criminal gang to steal money from people through a scam.

He is said to have posed as an employee of a financial institution and used a variety of ruses to convince a victim to transfer 88,000 roubles(€850) into a bank account in his name.

The money was then pocketed by him and his accomplices.

The Policia Nacional received information that the Ukrainian was staying at an Alicante hotel.

Officers went to the unnamed hotel and found him there.

He is currently being held in custody under the supervision of an Alicante court.
