TUMOURS accounted for 26,6% of all deaths in Spain for 2024, the second consecutive year.
According to the National Institute of Statistics, diseases of circulatory system accounted for 26.1% of all deaths.
The number of deaths due to cancers decreased by 2.4% compared to the previous year.

This decline meant that the death rate from cancer (236.4 deaths per 100,000 residents) was higher that that of diseases affecting the circulatory system (231,8 per 100,000).
The most common cause of death among tumours was bronchus-lung cancer, with 23,239 (a 1.9% increase over 2023), followed closely by colon cancer (10,434) but a 4.6% decrease compared to the previous year.
In terms of deaths from circulatory diseases, the leading cause was ischemic heart diseases with 26,851 (down 3.2%), followed by cerebrovascular disease on 22,786 (down 2.7%).
In 2024 there will be 433,357 natural deaths in Spain. 95.8% are due to these causes.
