According to a Ministry of the Interior announcement, six intentional murders have occurred in the Province of Malaga during the first quarter of the year 2025.

Statistically, these numbers are the same as last year’s, but there has been a 17% increase in attempted murders.

One of the explanations for the crime spree that authorities provide, is that criminals have access to ‘more and better weapons’.

Experts have stated that “the weapons being used now are real,” Malaga Hoy

They explained that “in the past, criminals would shoot blanks but now they have access to more lethal munitions and are using them.”

Since last year, the number of kidnappings has also doubled.

The total number of crimes in the province is up by nearly 2%.

This is in stark comparison to Spain’s average criminal rate which, in the first three months of 2025, was lower at 2.8%.

It’s good to know that violent and intimidating robberies in the province are down by 5.2%, from 420 cases to 398.

The number of violent and intimidatory robberies in homes, businesses and other places has also declined, specifically by 20,8%.
