RAPEX is the rapid alert system of the European Commission for dangerous consumer goods. A new warning has been issued by RAPEX regarding a possible fire hazard with certain Hyundai models. According to the system’s official warning, ‘some vehicles could leak brake fluid internally, potentially causing a short circuit that may lead to a fuse box overheating and a subsequent fire.’

This brake fluid fiasco is a mirror image of a defect that was previously reported on Kia vehicles manufactured in the same period. Hyundai and Kia belong to the same group of automobiles, explaining why this fault can appear on multiple models and brands.

What should you do with one?

It is best to check the list below if you are unsure if your Hyundai model and production date match those on this page. Contact Hyundai Contact an authorised dealer directly. Calling or searching online can help you determine whether your car requires a thorough inspection or free repairs. Better safe than sorry – especially when it comes to potential fire hazards.

Hyundai owners who own the following models should take special care:

Santa Fe, H1, and IX55 (2007–2014).

Accent, Tucson, Genesis, and IX35 (2009–2014).

The alert only applies to specific units manufactured between these years. However, the exact number in Spain is still unknown. If the problem affects all models produced during that period, it is estimated that up to 50,000 vehicles could be affected.
