Marbella’s Old Town will be alive on June 14 with a royal drama as it recreates the arrival of King Ferdinand, the Catholic. This lively reenactment, part of the Feria y Fiestas de San Bernabe, promises to be a fantastic day out for everyone.
The action will begin at 10:45 am in the Plaza de la Iglesia de la Encarnacion. 80 actors recreate the symbolic moment of the king receiving the keys to his town. The parade will weave through the streets of Salinas, Trinidad and the Ermita de Santos before finishing in the Plaza de los Naranjos.
This year, a live falconry demonstration is one of its highlights. Expect to see a royal or golden eagle, Harris’s hawks, goshawks, as well as other birds of prey. The birds were familiar to Ferdinand and added authenticity to the event.
Five horses and a mules also join the parade, echoing traditional transport from the time. The historical scenes were based off of real documents to give a vivid image of life more than 500 years ago.
This unique celebration of Marbella’s origins continues to grow and become a cultural attraction both for locals as well as visitors. The event is a fantastic way to learn about andalusian heritage in the heart Costa del Sol.
