Rich organic farmers’ market in Elviria

Elviria’s organic farmers market is a great place to shop.

On Saturday, April 19, the Guadalhorce Ecológico market returns to Elviria, offering a spectacular array of certified organic products from the Valle del Guadalhorce.

Founded by smallholders in the Guadalhorce region 17 years back, this collective is now a Costa del Sol institution, renowned for its fresh, organic Km.0 products, and their massive vegetables. The market has up to 20 stands with seasonal vegetables, fruits, cheeses and honeys. There are also wines, breads and other products. All of these items are organic and taste better than what you can find in regular supermarkets.

There are Finca La Juntilla’s juicy oranges, tomatoes, and greens, cultivated with traditional care in Coín, for example. For the celebration of the season, an organic mandarin tasting will encourage sustainable consumption. Markets were first focused on Malaga inland villages of the Guadalhorce Vally, once the breadbasket for the Moors. But they soon found a wider audience in Costa del Sol. ‘Our customers love the quality and authenticity,’ a spokesperson noted. The association, now with 20 producers, hosts eight monthly markets, including Marbella, Benalmádena, and Mijas.

Finca La Juntilla is a family farm that embodies the group’s philosophy. Since 2010, Diego Díaz has grown 35 rotating crops, from spinach to melons, respecting nature’s cycles. Their produce is delivered to homes in Spain by online orders. Visit the market from 9am to 2pm for a taste of Malaga’s finest organic bounty on Calle Andrés Segovia.
